Defending champions Oman have been drawn in Group B along with teams of Lebanon, Uzbekistan and Thailand during the AFC Beach Soccer Cup 2017 draw held at the AFC premises in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The Beach Soccer Cup will be held at Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, from March 4 to 11.
The first group comprises of Iran, Bahrain, China, Malaysia (host), and Afghanistan, while Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, and Japan that came second in the last edition of the championship form the third group.
The top team in each group will qualify to semifinals, along with the best team, which gets the second place in the three groups. The first three teams in the tournament will participate in the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup finals in the Bahamas in April 2017.
Meanwhile, the four-day International Capoeira Championship will kick off at the Sultan Qaboos Sport Complex in Bausher on Thursday. The Championship which concludes on January 15 is held in cooperation with the Brazilian Capoeira Association.
The opening ceremony of the championship will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Khalid Bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service.
The opening ceremony will include Capoeira performances with the participation of young people and the Sultanate’s international players
More than 200 capoeira players, coaches and experts representing 23 countries will take part in the championship, including Brazil, Europe and Asia, in addition to participants from the Sultanate and the GCC states.
