Omani rally driver Khalid Soomar and his co-driver Issa Alwardi on Mitsubishi EVO 7 clinched second place in the second round of the Emirates local rally and is highly hopeful of an emphatic top place finish in the third round, which will be organised in Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday.
The rally to be held during the weekend will also play hosts to another Omani driver Hamid Al Qasimi and his co-driver Mohamed Al Mazroui on Mitsubishi EVO 8, a press release said on Monday.
Both the drivers have the chance to be on the podium in group N as both of them have got knowledge about Emirates rallies – its stages and tracks. Khalid Soomar who is second overall in the Emirate rally championship is happy to attend the next round and hopes to be in the front row after the finish.
“I will try my best to be on the podium in first position, but this is a race and that anything can happen in between and I would like to thank Target co. and Shieda Trading for their support in this season and hope by the end of the rally everyone will finish the race safely, ” Soomar said.
Al Qasimi, who is competing in the rally against all odds, said: “I have none to support or sponsor my participation in this season too, so I find it very difficult to be in the race on my own cost without financial support but thanks to Sheikh Abdullah Al Qasmi from UAE for his personal support to maintain my car on his own expenses.”
The rally will start near the twin tower in Ras Al Khaimah sea road, where the start signal will be given by the incharge of organising committee of the rally, then the race cars will head down straight to the stages near the cement factory in Ras Al Khaimah.
The third round of the rally consists of three stages and each stage will be repeated three times. Humiria will be the first stage of the rally and will cover around 11 kilometres through difficult terrain. All the drivers will face a test of their experience on driving on tough roads and wadies.
The second stage of the rally will be in Al Sadi for around 12 kilometres on terrain similar to earlier stage but will pass through some flat areas during the rally. With the completion of the second stage all the cars will take their way toward the third stage which will be hosted in Al Khat area nearby the cement factory for about 12 kilometres.
The prize giving ceremony will be held near the Twin Tower building in Ras Al Khaimah and the chief guest will give away the prizes for the winners and other top performers.
