Safest place

It is a proud and happy moment not just for all in this country that the World Economic Forum in its recent report has said that the Sultanate was the fourth safest country in the world. It is little wonder then that most people unequivocally refer to this country as a paradise. It is all too clear that without the vision and wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said since the time of the Blessed Renaissance this commendable achievement could not have been possible. Even more commendable is the fact that the country has crossed several milestones to become strong, resilient and progressive making the world respect and admire this nation. Among all these, its most outstanding achievement will ever remain the accolades it has received as a global symbol of peace and harmony. The ranking was done after analysing various parameters, including police services, terrorism index, homicide rate and costs of crime and violence. Those in the country, from businessmen to officials and ordinary citizens echo in one voice that the Sultanate has always been a peaceful and a safe place. However the report also states that the Middle East and North Africa region shows large discrepancy in terms of safety. This makes the achievement of the Sultanate more commendable.

Finland topped the list while from the Gulf Co-operation Council, Qatar was also listed among the safest countries. On the overall ranking, the Sultanate was placed 66th among 136 countries on the basis of human resources, business environment, hygiene, information technology and safety. The Sultanate is among the top ten fastest-growing destinations between 2016 and 2026 for leisure travel spending. It was listed along with countries such as India, Brunei, Thailand, China, Myanmar, Mozambique and Vietnam. The Royal Oman Police has certainly played a vital role in maintaining law and order in the country. What must be said at this juncture is that the gentle and polite conduct of the police force in dealing with the public at all times is laudable. It points to the fact that these virtues seem to be inherent in the intrinsic nature of all Omanis. Perhaps this is the reason why this country has been blessed with overall peace and harmony.

A general observation has been made far and wide by people of diverse nationalities, shades of cultures, creeds and beliefs that “because the Omani people have always been at peace with themselves, they have spread this peace, love and harmony beyond their border across other countries. Some have put it in another way that peace and love reigns supreme in this beautiful country, both within the country as well as outside. This peaceful nature manifests itself in many other ways too. Omanis are happy, friendly and hospitable people who genuinely open up their hearts to the people they befriend. It is not unusual to hear this comment time and again that. “I have never been to a more hospitable country before. I’ve never faced any issues of security at all. And this has a lot to do with the progressive and open-minded attitude of the people of Oman and this is what gets this country to the top always.”
