Oman contingent take part in Baku Games opening gala


The Sultanate participated in the official opening ceremony of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games at Baku in Azerbaijani on May 12.

The Games which involves the participation of 5,000 athletes from 75 countries will conclude on May 22, a press release said on Saturday.

The official delegation of the Sultanate’s mission comprising of Sheikh Saif Bin Hilal Al Hosni, Vice- Chairman of the Omani Olympic Committee, Taha Bin Sulaiman Al Kushari, Secretary-General of the Omani Olympic Committee, Salman Al Balushi, Director of the Mission and some national team players participated in the ceremony.

Sultanate to compete in five individual and group games, including football, tennis, athletics, archery and taekwondo.

The opening ceremony of the Games was held at the Baku Olympic Stadium in the presence of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and was attended by around 65 thousand spectators.

The ceremony was also attended by Azerbaijan President`s wife Mehriban Aliyev, First Vice-President of the Republic and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Fourth Islamic Solidarity Games, in addition to Yousef Bin Ahmed Al Othaimeen,  Secretary-General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, and heads of official missions participating in the Games.
