The Information Technology Authority (ITA) has cautioned people against opening a link on the WhatsApp chat platform which says that it users can change the applications colour.
The warning comes in the backdrop of malware and virus threats, especially ‘WannaCry’ that wrecked havoc globally. In the Sultanate, the ITA said that the impact was minimal since counter measures were taken.
Regarding the latest WhatsApp virus, ITA has said that the link was not only spelt wrongly but also all the alphabets were in English. This link has an adware virus, the ITA has said through its Twitter handle.
It has categorically said that users should make it a point not to visit such sites or applications. They should follow the official website of the application, or directly through its official application, the authority states.
