Commerce ministry meet on Khareef fest tomorrow

The Ministry of  Commerce and Industry will organise a meeting with private and government stakeholders in Dhofar governorate on Monday to assess preparations for the Khareef  Festival and tourism season starting on June 21.

Director-General at the Directorate General for Commerce and Industry in Dhofar Akram bin Hassan Al Mazraa said: “This meeting is to discuss the readiness of various government and private entities to provide the materials, goods and services throughout the season.”

“We will discuss the importance of providing all facilities and services by the authorities. They have to ensure that foodstuffs reach all the malls and markets.

“The authorities will have to ensure the transportation of foodstuffs during national holidays. Additionally, officials will be asked to monitor the market to ensure that prices are not inflated and the products that reach the market are safe. There will also be various promotional offers at the commercial establishments,” he said.

Organising activities, events and exhibitions in commercial malls will be discussed.  As 70 per cent of the tourists and visitors use their own transportation, provision of additional oil tanks in bunks in all governorates will be taken up. Cleanliness at the main facilities of the gas stations and restaurants will have to be ensured. All ATMs at commercial locations and shops will be examined to make sure that they are in working condition.

Fuel bunk owners would have to coordinate with the authorities for additional oil tankers to be stationed at Haima and Muqshin as back up.  They will also be asked to depute additional staff and accept debit/credit cards. The support of Royal Oman Police would be sought to speed up oil tanker movement, the official added.
