The number of cases benefiting from social security in the Sultanate reached 81,942 cases by the end of 2016, according to the Social Security Bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Total disbursements to social security beneficiaries amounted to 119.13 million rials.
Statistics indicated that the year 2016 saw a decline in the number of social security cases by 3.2 per cent over the previous year.
The percentage of divorced women was 14.3 per cent of the beneficiaries of social security, with
11,744 cases paid 12.68 million rials. The percentage of widows benefiting from social security amounted to 7.5 per cent to reach 6,165 cases, with a decrease of 447 cases compared to the previous year and paid 10.08 million rials.
The Governorate of North Al Batinah accounted for about a quarter of the cases benefiting from the social security (25.5 per cent), with 20.915 cases followed by the Governorate of South Sharqiyah with 9,178 cases, then the Governorate of South Al Batinah with 8,842 cases, the Governorate of Dakhiliyah 8,709, the Governorate of North Sharqiyah 7,954 cases, the Governorate of Muscat 7,865 cases, the Governorate of Dhahirah 6,148 cases, the Governorate of of Dhofar 5,624 cases, the Governorate of Al Buraimi 3,404 cases, the Governorate of Al Wusta 1,835 cases, the Governorate of Musandam 1,338 cases and outside the Sultanate 148 cases.
