For the first time, people in Oman will be able to view underwater whale sharks, under the expert supervision of Pierre Frolla, a freediving world record holder and now environmental educator, at the Al Mouj Marina from September 29 to to October 7.
Put together by SeaOman, the marine leisure arm of Oman Sail, Frolla, will lead six days of ocean expeditions with members of the public. These aim to offer the ultimate encounter with whale sharks as they make their annual journey along Oman’s coast.
“Whale sharks are magnificent creatures, a true wonder of the submarine world,” said Frolla. “I believe the wonderful underwater conditions that the Sultanate can offer will provide the perfect conditions to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat — a very rare and special opportunity.”
The whale shark season in the Sultanate runs from September to November and is a highlight of the country’s diving calendar.
