Chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (Sezad) HE Yahya Bin Said Al Jabri received Vice-minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Molit) of South Korea Son Byeong-suk at his office on Wednesday.
During the meeting, both sides discussed cooperation in the development of Sezad.
The Korean team was acquainted with the projects in the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZD) in terms of infrastructure and private-sector investments.
Al Jabri welcomed the desire of the Korean side to invest in SEZD and highlighted its advantages and the incentives offered by Sezad to investors.
On his turn, Son Byeong-suk expressed his admiration over the development plans witnessed by the Sultanate and the progress achieved in various fields, referring to the economic cooperation between the two countries and the desire of the Korean side to develop it to broader horizons.
The Koreans gave an overview of their economy, their companies’ potentials, particularly in the ICT and infrastructure sectors, and South Korea’s efforts in the field of smart cities.
The team expressed hope that the Sultanate would benefit from the progress made by Korea in this field.
Sezad provided a presentation of SEZD and its strategic location on the Arabian Sea overlooking the Indian Ocean and its proximity to the international shipping lines, advantages and incentives offered by Sezad to investors, and the availability of large plots of land to invest in industrial and commercial sectors, building hotels and resorts, real estate development and logistics services.
Both teams expressed their desire to strengthen the existing cooperation between them and participate in various economic projects.
The delegation included senior Korean officials and representatives of Korean companies in the petrochemical, IT, infrastructure, energy and railway sectors.
Separately, Minister of Transport and Communications HE Dr Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Futaisi received the delegation.
Both discussed aspects of cooperation between the two countries and means of enhancing them in fields of infrastructure, transport, ports, civil aviation and matters of common concern.
Al Futaisi reviewed the strategic projects being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications in transport, ports, communications and civil aviation sectors.
