Activities for Phase I of the Muttrah Smart City Project would be kick-started with a hackathon in November and call for research proposals from academia, said Dr Ali Al Shidhani, Director of Research Centres, The Research Council (TRC).

At the hackathon, computer programme developers, project managers, designers and other experts would collaborate on solutions for the smart city. The three-day workshop will take up challenges faced by the project.

“We have partners in our smart city platform like Muscat Municipality and Supreme Council of Planning who would do whatever is in their capacity but we are hopeful other partners can chip in and help turn those projects into reality,” Al Shidhani said.
